Germany is a federal democracy and the government is elected democratically. The president is appointed as the head of state, and the chancellor is elected as the head of the government who practices executive power via its cabinet. The chancellor has a similar role and responsibilities as of a prime minister in other forms of parliamentary democratic system.  Germany has sustained favourable bilateral relations with France and some other geographically important countries.
